Take Dry Ice Camping
Are you heading on a camping or fishing trip? Make sure to stock up on dry ice!
Dry ice is amazing because it can even keep regular ice cold, and you certainly don’t want to worry about groceries or any fish you catch spoiling. If you’re about to take a trip, we want to give you a walkthrough to keep your food cold and fresh with dry ice.
Camping Basics with Dry Ice
If you need to keep something frozen for 24 hours, plan on using between 10-20 pounds of dry ice depending on the size of your ice chest. If something just needs to stay cold, you shouldn’t mix it in with what needs to stay frozen. Also keep in mind that it will take extra time for the frozen items to thaw because of how effective dry ice is, and you will need more dry ice the larger your ice chest is or for longer trips.
Packing Dry Ice
Before packing dry ice, line the inside of your container with newspaper or another type of filler. The dry ice will sublimate faster if there is empty space. To really help increase the lifespan of your dry ice, you could line the inside with Styrofoam. Some people prefer to place dry ice on the bottom of a container, but since cold sinks, it is actually better to place it on top of the food.
Transporting Dry Ice
When transporting your dry ice, there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, you want to make sure that the area is well ventilated. The carbon dioxide omitted from dry ice can cause shortness of breath, dizziness and even suffocation. Secondly, it helps to provide shade for your ice chest. If you have sleeping bags or towels that you can drape over the container, it will help keep the dry ice last longer. With the ease of ordering dry ice online, we no longer have to worry about food spoiling during camping and fishing trips. No Registration Required.
