Common Applications for Dry Ice
While using dry ice is relatively prevalent, most people don’t know how many uses it has. It still remains a mysterious substance despite its many applications. In fact, you can use dry ice for a lot of things! Let’s take a look at some common applications for dry ice.
Beverages
Beverages are one of the common applications for dry ice. This can be an excellent party trick! The key is to utilize two to four pounds of dry ice per gallon of your beverage of choice, such as fruit punch. Remember that you or anyone else shouldn’t ingest the dry ice, so use pieces significant enough they will sink to the bottom and can easily be avoided.
If you add too much dry ice, you also run the risk of freezing your beverage. In addition, you’ll receive a ton of fog if you keep your drinking beverage at room temperature. You can also ladle the drink into drinking glasses and add regular ice.
Pools & Jacuzzis
You can also drop fifty to a hundred pounds of dry ice straight into a jacuzzi or heated pool. Doing so will provoke massive fog to pour out of the jacuzzi or swimming pool, creating a fantastic effect! This approach shouldn’t last more than an hour and will carbonate the water for multiple days. Wait for the carbonation to dissipate and drain the water if necessary. Remember to keep the water temperature above 60 degrees Fahrenheit for this to work right.
Fog Machines
Apart from stage productions, you might want a fog machine for many reasons. From filming a video to developing the most outstanding Halloween display, dry ice can help create that fog effect. Fog machines often have up to 55 gallons of metal or plastic water barrels that come with a water heater to keep the water warm. Afterward, you can place dry ice in a bucket with holes so the warm water can enter, and the bucket is lowered into the hot water. As a result, this produces vapor fog that enters into a specific area with a fan.
